Entry to the Sixth Form 2025
Pupils join King's Sixth Form from the Senior School and elsewhere. We usually take around 20-30 students from other schools. All students have the same entry requirements:
Admission to the Sixth Form is by interview and a minimum entry requirement of seven GCSEs, of which at least four need to be at grade 7 (A) or higher with three additional results at grade 6 (B).
Minimum Grades 7 (A) or above are required in the subjects that will be studied at A Level.
Grade 8 (A*) is needed in GCSE Maths to study either Maths or Further Maths at A level. Grade 9 is recommended for Further Maths due to the pace of the course.
Grade 8 (A*) is preferred in Biology, Chemistry and Physics to ensure that students can study these subjects confidently at A Level.
For Biology, Chemistry and Physics, grade 7 (A) Maths is required.
Students are required to have a minimum of grade 4 (C) in both Maths and English Language.
Prospective students are invited for an interview on the Sixth Form interview day on Friday, 24 January 2025.
These interviews are academic but offer the opportunity to see if King's is the right place for the student. It will cover the subjects a student wishes to study, as well as offering an opportunity to discuss co-curricular and career ambitions.
Interviews are conducted by Head of Sixth Form, the Headmaster or another senior member of staff. The Head of Modern Languages and Music are also involved in subject-specific interviews.
Prospective students are required to submit their subject choices for A Level along with the most recent reports from their current school.
Predicted grades and a reference will be requested from the prospective student's school before a final decision is made whether a place should be offered.
Bursaries are considered for families with a gross income of below £60,000.
There are several scholarship opportunities for Sixth Form study at King's and these are awarded base don interview and predicted grades. For more information, please see our Helping with Fees booklet.
The deadline for applying for a bursary was Monday, 25 November 2024. Any applications made after this date are for full fee-paying places only.
